On December 14, a gathering of people from North High and the surrounding community participated in a Hmong New Year celebration at North High.

Food was served in the cafeteria, and speeches and entertainment took place in the auditorium. Ms. Lien and Ms. Schweppe welcomed the guests on behalf of North High, and then the entertainment committee took over. Most of the entertainers were North or Tartan students, but some were younger children from the surrounding area. Entertainment included singing, dancing, and a fashion show.

Many North AFROTC cadets were also on hand in full uniform, adding their own personality and color to the proceedings.

Xuying Moua, a North sophomore, describes the event this way: “It was flashy. It had more content than I thought it would have. I particularly liked the collection of Hmong tools that was on display.”

Although this evening was a celebration of Hmong culture, all people were welcome to participate. It was truly a multicultural event.
