What would you think if you thought of the American Flag right now? Usually, you’d get many different responses. Some involving the past and present treatments of various groups, and treatment of some groups that plague the nation’s history. I interviewed two students, one in JROTC and one that is not in JROTC, to remove certain biases that may emerge. The JROTC student said, “Our Nation has had a troubled history, most countries do, and I don’t think Our Flag should be responsible for it. But I think that it’s much better now, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t still in the dark about certain issues really.” Interesting thought. Next, the non-JROTC student said that the Flag is “Important, but it had seen some issues of the past that it can’t completely remove, but can work to make things better for.” What is YOUR opinion on the Flag?
